Potassium silicate | ||||||||||||
Product Name: Potassium silicate CAS No.: 1312-76-1 Molecular Formula:K2O3Si Molecular Weight: 154.28 Description: Potassium silicate is a colorless or slightly yellowish translucent to transparent glassy substance. It has hygroscopic properties. It has a strong alkaline reaction. It decomposes in acid and precipitates silica. It is slowly soluble in cold water or almost insoluble in water (depending on its composition) and insoluble in ethanol. Potassium silicate is commonly used in the manufacture of welding rods, electrodes for welding, reducing dyes, and fireproofing agents. It is also used as a coating layer for fluorescent screens and as a filler for soaps. It is a clear, viscous liquid with a blue-green color when in a stable state. Soluble in water and acid, and precipitates colloidal silicic acid, the higher the potassium content, the more soluble it is. Insoluble in alcohol. Application: Protective coating (to prevent "frosting" i.e. crystallization of the salt surface). Catalyst. Binding agent. Used as a descaling agent in the manufacture of glass and ceramics. Phosphorescent glue on the picture tube, coated outside the welding rod, can overcome spatter. Used as a reducing dye, fireproofing agent, welding rod adhesive and inorganic paint binder, but also used in soap, medicine, refractory materials production, etc. Specification:
