Description:Sulphur hexafluoride is a colourless, odourless, non-toxic, non-flammable, stable gas with the chemical formula SF₆

. It has a molecular weight of 146.07 and a density of 6.1 kg/m3 at 20°C and 0.1 MPa, which is about 5 times the density of air. Sulphur hexafluoride is gaseous at room temperature and pressure, with a critical temperature of 45.6°C, a three-phase point temperature of -50.8°C and a sublimation point temperature of -63.8°C at atmospheric pressure. The molecular structure of sulphur hexafluoride is octahedrally arranged, with small bonding distances and high bonding energy, which makes it highly stable, and at temperatures up to 180°C it is compatible with electrical structural materials similar to nitrogen.
Application:
1,Used as arc extinguishing gas for sulphur hexafluoride circuit breaker, mutual conductivity sensor and sulphur hexafluoride lightning rod.
2,Used as protective gas for die-casting of magnesium and aluminium alloy.
3,Used as refrigerant, the cooling range can be between -45oC~0oC.
4,Used as a dopant for single film optical fiber isolation layer in optical fiber manufacturing.
5,Used as a tracer in the field of air pollution monitoring and hydrogeological testing.
6,Used as a contrast agent for ultrasonography examination of liver tumors.
7,Sulphur hexafluoride is widely used in the field of microelectronics technology as an ideal gas for electronic etching.
